79th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain

The 15th September 2019, today marks the 79th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and some of our members attended the outdoor service in the Military section of the Hornchurch Cemetery, in attendance were several Air Training Corps Cadet squadrons from 1838(Elm Park), 452 (Hornchurch), 6F (Romford), 2048 (Dagenham) & 4F (Ilford) and 282 (East Ham), along with several prominent dignitaries. One of our official photographers Reg Hardington was also on hand to take a photographic record of the day’s events. We were there to remember the three Battle of Britain pilots that were lost from RAF Hornchurch, Pilot Officer Robert Basil Dewey, 603 Squadron, 27th October 1940. Flying Officer Claude Waller Goldsmith, 603 Squadron, 28th October 1940 and Pilot Officer John William Broadhurst, 222 Squadron, 7th October 1940. We will remember them…
