Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar

What a brilliant day out for some of the lucky members of the committee from the Hornchurch Aerodrome Historical Society. First stop the Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, we went along there to support one of our own (Martin) who flew in Spitfire Mk IXc – 9GQ MJ627 and if that wasn’t enough excitement during the morning, we went for a spot of lunch at the famous Spitfire Cafe at Westerham. Then onto what is now known as Kenley Common, (former RAF Kenley) where we watched the gliders from the Surrey Hills Gliding Club soaring above our heads and then landing smoothly back on the common.
We then set off to meet up with our good friend Phil from the RAFA Portcullis Club, and then going for a private tour around some of the surviving buildings on the site (which are now in a very sorry state of disrepair) We also went over to take a look at the restoration work that is at present being carried out on the former dispersal pens.
