The military weekend held on the former site of the RAF Hornchurch aerodrome and now of course the Hornchurch Country Park, with lots and lots of interest from everyone that visited our display over the two days. As well as plenty of anticipation over the opening on September 15th of the new RAF Hornchurch Heritage Centre. We also met up with two old friends of many years, Rod Aspinell and Trevor Williams formerly based at the Airscene Museum at Blake Hall Ongar, but are now going to be part of our little band of dedicated volunteers.
It was also great to finally get to meet up with author Carol Cannavan whose new book comes out next year, the book will be called ‘Secret Hornchurch’. It seemed to be a day for meeting local authors as we also met with Frances Clamp who has written a book called ‘Essex at War 1939-45’ which we purchased for our Archival library.
